DKI Jakarta Provincial Government by its Tourism and Creative Economy Service (Disparekraf) participated in the 2022 London Book Fair (LBF) in Olympia, London, England on April; 5 – 7, 2022. Delegates from Jakarta joined in the exhibition initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia to promote Jakarta as the host of the 33rd International Publishers Association (IPA) World Congress that will be held in November 2022.
”London Book Fair Event is a momentum to invite publishers from around the world to attend on the upcoming IPA Congress on November,” Said Chief of Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Service Andhika Permata, Wednesday (6/4).
Andhika explains that Jakarta as the designated City of literature by UCCN (UNESCO Creative City Network) in 2021 feels so honored to become the host of the IPA World Congress. “We are so excited to welcome all of the IPA members from around the world here in Jakarta”, said Andhika.
2022 London Book Fair is a meeting forum of publishers from all around the world to take up issues such as copyright, sales and distribution, from printed media, audio, TV, and movie up to digital media. Held annually, this event is attended by 25.000 professional publishers from many countries.
DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Service is a part of the curator team that selects the local publishers to be an exhibitor in the LBF 2022. Through a selection mechanism, 10 publishers/agencies are passed. They are Borobudur Agency, PT Mizan Pustaka, Gramedia International, Gagas Media, Zikrul Bestari, Pustaka Obor Indonesia Foundation, Re: ON Comics, Kesaint Blanc, Literasia Creative and PT Kanisius.
In this good opportunity, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also brings the President of IKAPI or Indonesia Publishers Association which is also an Executive Committee of IPA Congress, Arys Hilman Nugraha, and Chairmen of 2022 IPA Congress Laura Prinsloo. Both of the delegates together with VP of IPA Congress Karine Pansa will discuss the preparation of the 33rd IPA World Congress on the 2nd day of the discussion session Wednesday, April 6, 2022. These activities are also a series of Jakarta as a UNESCO City of Literature.
“Besides technology information challenges due to COVID-19 Pandemic, the publishing industry also facing new challenges such as platform development and copyright issues. These issues will be discussed in the 2022 IPA Congress,” said Arys.
On the first day of the 2022 London Book Fair, Delegations from Jakarta directly discuss with the representative of Norwich City who already become a City of Literature for 10 years. Jakarta got lots of advice and support regarding literacy activities that will enhance the development and economy of the city.
On the second day, there was an Indonesia Reception attended by Bapak Desra Percaya, Ambassador of Indonesia Republic for the United Kingdom and International maritime Organization. As a cover for the event, on the third day there was a book discussion for “Bukan Perawan Maria” title with Feby Indriani, a writer from Jakarta.
The publishing industry is one of the 17 creative economic sub-sectors supported by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Creative Economy Service. The 33rd IPA Congress in November 2022 is expected to be attended by 86 countries with 1.000 publishers and bring collaboration and improvement to the publishers.
